Life - Daily Art Journal Page

Hey guys! What's up?

I know that it's been a while since my last post, but I've been trying to make time to do art in general. Since my weekend away from home, I kind of got out of the swing of things. However, now I'm back, hopefully for all of February. That's what I'm hoping for at least.

On Thursday, I gave blood for the very first time, through my school. I had a whole lot of fun doing it (though I don't think it was supposed to be fun), and I thought that it was a very interesting experience. It only took me a total of three minutes to give a pint of blood, and the lady who was doing it seemed surprised. Not sure what that means, but hopefully it's not a bad thing. XD

Anyways. I was inspired to do a page based around that concept. The fact that I did give blood.

 I had a sort of idea in the back of my head that I wanted to come into fruition, but I could only BARELY see it in my mind's eye. What I had to end up doing was just starting in the first place, and not being afraid to mess up. Really, all that I had for the concept was the fact that I knew I wanted to use a lot of red, and I wanted to have the red drops coming down the page.

Even the heart was something that kind of came to me in the moment.

That's one of the things that I love about mixed media art. About art journaling in general. You don't necessarily have to know what you're doing before you do it. I know that, at least for me personally, the actual process of working actually prompts more ideas in my mind. Makes my vision clearer.

After every couple of layers, I get a few more ideas for the next few layers. That's just the way I like to work.

Anyways. I hope that you guys enjoyed seeing this page; I feel like it has a lot more personal meaning than a lot of the other pages that I do, and that makes it unique. And that's a good thing.

52 Sparks - Motivation.

Hey guys! I'm back again today, though I have a bit of a shorter post for you guys.

I have a lot of homework to do, so I'm just popping in to share a few photos.

This was for 52 Sparks. The second prompt was to create a page around what drives you. To me, drive and motivation are very much one in the same. So I decided to do my page about motivation.

I did the page on a live stream, and I collaged a bunch of pieces together to create this little owl. I came up for the design for him while doodling for one of Milliande's newest prompts. So I decided to let something become of it, and create this little guy.

I really like the way that he turned out, and I tried a technique that I never have before, which is actually trying to create recognizable pieces from scraps of magazines.

"Time" and ICAD #4: Doodle Your Name

Hey everybody! I'm back with another art journal page for you guys today. :) Today I was working from yet ANOTHER prompt (I love the way these have been working for me - tons of inspiration) from the 5,000 Question Survey. Today's prompt was "Does time really heal all wounds?"

After the base layer of writing on this art journal page, I came to the conclusion that I don't think that this is so. Sure, I think that time can heal SOME wounds; some physical wounds and smaller emotion wounds, but I think that the biggest problem does come from the larger emotional scars that we develop throughout our lives.

Something that I have really enjoyed about using these prompts is the way that I've almost turned it into a process. When I start out a page, I start out with the base layer of journaling, then add the art on top. From there, I look for a key word that I used in the journaling. For this page, I realized that it was "time". It just seemed to be a good title. And then, I take that word and use that as a prompt for my journaling.

Single word prompts seem to inspire me a bit more than questions, and I really enjoy the way that my journaling turns out. It gives me a good base to work off of, and gives me some different ideas to work with.

As you can see, I tried another way of doing the title today; I was going to use the cut out letters, but I decided to use stamps instead. A foam stamp set. I love the way that these look, and it always seems to work out with any style of art page.

I decided to use some warmer colors for this page instead of the cool colors that I normally use, and I love. Seriously. I do. Even though my favorite colors are blue and green, I do like to use some other colors on occasion. And I normally am pretty pleased with the outcome.

I also love the way that the photo that I collaged onto this page near the beginning really blended into the background. I just like the effect that it gave. I just did a bunch of layers, one after another on the page, and that was the result that I got. Pretty interesting in my opinion. But, of course, I'm biased.

The last thing that I have to share with you guys today is my daily index card for ICAD2. I love the way these prompts are as well, and I seem to be doing good in keeping up with this project. Let's just hope that I keep it up. Today's prompt was "Doodle Your Name". And so that's just what I did. I used a bunch of different Crayola markers and just wrote my name over and over again on the lined side of this index card. I just have to say, after you've written your name this many times, it does start to look kind of weird.

Hopefully I'll be back with you guys tomorrow; today was the first day of a sports camp that I went to, plus I went to Starbucks with one of my good friends. So I had kind of a busy day. And yet, I was still able to make it on here. So I think it'll probably be safe to say I'll be back tomorrow! See you then!

Layering With Leftovers

Hey, hey hey everyone! Jordan Hill is back in the blogosphere, and happy and excited as ever to share MY art with YOU! Okay, I know that intro sounds a little bit corny, but I figured that you needed something to make it up to you from me not being on here for who knows how long. But in addition to perhaps adding a little bit of a chuckle to your day, I'm giving a content full post today. I'm going to show you how to add some layers to some of your pages, and how you can use the leftovers from a specific page to do so. In order to do that, I'm also going to be giving you a couple photos of some current work that I've been working on today, so you'll get some of my current work! Let's get started, shall we?

If you look at the photograph above, you will see one of my most current pages. When I was first doing the base layer of journaling for this page (something that I will focus more directly on in a different post), something called to me. It told me to make a pretty pink and purple page with lots of hearts; using a stencil of course. But, being me, I proceeded to make fake nauseous sounds to myself, thus making myself look like a total fool. As I am not fond of pink. If you know me, then you will know that this is so.  However, as that is where my muse was telling me to go, I proceeded to do so. After probably thirty something layers later, I couldn't stand it any longer. It looked horrible, and I hated it. So I went over it with a translucent yellow poster paint. AND I LOVED IT! I did this layer today, as I made the decision last night, and decided to sleep on it. After that, I added some polka dot stamping with a burnt orange color. Then, to finish off the page, I stamped the title with a bright, contrasting blue with foam stamps. However. As I completed each step of the page, I was left with some remainder paint. The rest of this post is what I did with it.

The first thing I would like to focus on was the layer of translucent yellow. Yes, that was the finishing touch to my previous page, and I love to use it to tie all of the layers together. However, that does not mean that you can't use it in the layers of a page in the very beginning. For example, with the yellow, I flipped to a page in one of my other journals, and found a page that only had a single layer on it thus far. It was a layer of light pink paint over the entire page. I thought the colors worked well together, and I then stenciled on multiple flowers to create a layer and a new beginning to a page.

Now we proceed to the burnt orange polka dot stamping. I used that as the next to last layer in my latest page. However, I'm not sure how many more layers I'm going to have to put on here before it's done. It may be almost done. Or it may be just the beginning. If you were wondering, I did use a stencil for the gear portion of it. A gear stencil that I made myself, mind you. I used a Cricut cartridge by the name of Paper Lace 2. I just cut the stencil at size 10 1/2", because it wouldn't let me do it any bigger. If you were wondering, this page was previously showcased in it's VERY beginning stages here.

 And last, but certainly not least, we have the color that I used to put the title onto my page. I used it as the very beginning of a page. A fresh new start. A new beginning. A beautiful, beautiful beginning. I love the way the color works with my personal style, so I know that I'm going to be able to do a lot with this. But anyways. 'Tears' Art Journal Page

Hey everybody!

Sorry that the picture I've got for all of you today isn't the greatest. 

Today, I sadly didn't have any time to work on anything creative.

It was my first day back to school after Thanksgiving break, which lasted for a week.

The teachers assigned tons of homework.

And I still had to get my words for NaNoWriMo.

 But I'm still posting.

Hopefully after November is over, my art count will go up.

Except I will still be working with my book.

Finishing the thing.

And editing and crap.

But anyways.

Back to the point that I was going for.

I'm sharing a page with you today that you may or may not have already seen.

I posted it a little while back, but I added to it.

You also may have see it on the journal flip video I posted a few days ago.

I added the white dots to the title.

Also, the two pieces of ephemera are new. 

Other than that, it's the same that it's always been.

I know that it's not that cool today, but I thank you for checking in with me here!
