New Materials and a Canvas

Hey guys! So I'm back with all you guys once again today, and I've got a couple of things to share with you. I went to Michaels today, and got a whole bunch of stuff, plus started painting my first canvas!! The first part of my blog post today is going to be about the canvas, and the second part is going to be about the stuff I bought today. Okay. So let's just get started here, with the canvas. I did this canvas pretty much the same way that I do the rest of my art; lots of layers, bright colors, and distressed effects.  I've been experimenting with a new technique, and that is sort of shown on this piece, but I still need to perfect it a bit before I tell you what it is. For now, you're just going to have to deal with the look of this piece as to see how it works out. :) Now I'll go through a few of the layers I did on here.

I started out with a layer of lime green paint as the base. I love the way this color looks. Then I took a piece of plastic canvas that I had bought and stenciled a circle through it. I added a little bit of text stamping, and, after letting those layers dry I sprayed some glimmer mist over top of it. I made a wash, then added the two layers of drips. And that's where I ended the layers. I know that more layers will be added in the very near future; I was already prepping some more stencils to use on this before I took the picture. Now let's continue on to the stuff that I bought at Michaels.

This is the first set of stuff. I got quite a bit of stuff, so I had to separate it all into three separate piles to photograph so that you could see all of it. In this stack I have a piece of plastic canvas, 2 Sharpie paint pens (a white and a black), a drawing set, a 36 pan watercolor set, a dollar set of clear stamps, a set of 12 tube watercolors, a set of 12 acrylic paints, and a 16 pack of Cray-Pas. Some of this stuff I've never worked with before in my life, so there will be quite a bit of experimentation that you are going to be seeing on this blog in the very near future. I love, love, LOVE experimenting, especially when I get to play with new supplies. So I'll probably be doing that quite a bit.

This next picture is really quite simple, but I really wanted you to see it. I got a 2 pack of 8"x10" canvas' for $5.99. Plus, they were buy 1, get 1 free, so I pretty much got each one for $1.50, which I consider pretty good for canvas'.

This is the last picture of the stuff that I bought today. This is more the paint materials. I got a big thing of white tempera paint because my white paint was gone. Then, I got six different paints for 59 cents each. I really wanted to get one of each color; a pink, a red, an orange, yellow, green, purple, brown, black, and a gray. I had picked out one of each anyways. But what ended up happening was that I had to put some back because I wanted to have some money left on my gift card. And I did. I have about thirteen dollars left on a fifty dollar gift card. So I got all of that stuff, including one last thing of black glitter glue, which is also shown in the picture above for a grand total of $36.18. I would say that I got a lot for my buck. What do you think?

ICAD Card

Hey guys. I'm back again.

And I'm using the new format again.

I like it a lot more, and it sort of makes short posts a bit longer.

It's kind of stupid, but it's true. :/

So today's post is pretty simple. It's basically just this one card. 

The reason for that being that I was gone ALL DAY today practicing my volleyball.

And then after that I had a game. So I'm sure you guys get it.

Now onto the card.

This was a really fun card to make, and it was really simple. I used a dark green paint, a light blue paint, and a bright red paint. 

I actually just dabbed it on with a paper towel.

It looked pretty cool.

Then, before the paint dried, I sprinkled on some gold glitter.

Then added the word down in the corner.

And that's it.

Color Scheme!

Yeah! I made it back for the fifth day in a row. I've been doing pretty good so far on my commitment. We'll see how long it'll last. So today was also day five of Art Journaling Daily. It's pretty awesome. So today I thought I'd do a little bit of experimentation with doodling. I don't think I've done that yet in my journal, so I just messed around with it a bit. I used the colors blue, green and orange. I actually got the color scheme from the 365 Card challenge, and it's going pretty good so far. I couldn't actually find a challenge to use for my art journal page, so I just decided to try that. I doodled the stars, then painted, stamped, and collaged over TOP of the doodles.

Also, you can see that along the edges are a line of glitter. I did that in the normal way, just using regular school glue and shaking the glitter over top of you. I kind of like using it, though it's not really my style.

Here's a version of it a bit closer away. I'll probably add more to it, but that's all I'm going to do for now. I like it a lot. By the way, this is my official 100th page!!! I'm totally freaking out. I can't believe that actually happened. It feels like it happened so quickly. It's strange. But so cool!!

Okay, so this photo above is simply a view of a color scheme. This was on 365 Cards. I love this color scheme. It's totally my style, and I love the brightness of it.

Here's the card that I created for this challenge. I know it's a bit messy, but that's sort of my style. I used more of that zebra stripe ribbon. I seem to be addicted to this lately. I'm not quite sure why, but I just am. Crazy huh?

I know I promised you guys yesterday that I'd show you what my cross stitch is supposed to look like finished. And here it is!! Do you like it?

One last picture. This is my progress. I know I showed one yesterday, but you can sort of see some progression. I like it a lot so far, and think it's turning out perfectly. You can sort of see in the dark brown in the back the two extra cars forming.

99 Art Journal Pages!!

Hello, hello, hello!! I've managed to make it back another day. I'm glad too. I've missed blogging so much and it just feels GOOD to post again. So anyways, yesterday I counted up all of my art journal pages that I've done thus far, and I had 98. So that means that this one is number 99! What a coincidence is that? I had a lot of fun creating this page, but you can't really tell what it took for me to get it like this!! I started it out with a lime green background.

Then I glued a bunch of torn papers to the lime color. So far so good. But then, I added black. And I don't mean a little black. I added a LOT of black. Too much black. So it was way too dark for my taste. I hate when that happens, since I love bright colors. I love them. Love them. So what ended up happening was that you could barely even tell that there was any lime there. There was just too much black.

So what ended up happening was that I added white over top of the whole thing using a paintbrush. I sort of mixed it in with the black, and it created this grayish color. Then I pulled up a couple of the paper strips I put down in order to reveal the lime. I like it a lot. A whole lot better. I just need to learn to control my black. Every time I add something black, I end up putting too much. There's a thin line between too much and too little. And I haven't quite figured it out yet.

I decided that I'd show you a card that I made using the glitter I bought the other day. This is a more sophisticated way to use it I assume. You see, instead of using school glue for it, I decided that I'd use a tape runner instead. The glitter stuck perfectly, if not even better than school glue would. I like it a lot. My only problem is that whenever I try using the glitter, it gets ALL over my clothes. And I never have been a glitter type of girl. Especially on my clothes.

This is the fourth card in a row that I've made for the 365 Cards challenge. It was called 'Up in the Air'. You were supposed to use three things that can be found in the air. I decided to try a new type of approach to this. I used a picture of a dragonfly and a butterfly. Then, instead of another animal or insect like I assumed others may be using, I decided to use the color blue. You can defiantly find blue in the sky, even though it depends on the day.

So now for the progress on my cross stitch. I managed to finish the football except for one line of stitching and of course some of the back stitches I'll be using on top of the actual football itself. Also, I've got started on the next train car I decided to start with. I'll probably work more on that once I get off of here.

Here's a bit of a closer photograph of the finished football and began boxcar. So yeah. I thought it was getting pretty cool. I decided to start on the toys at the bottom and then slowly work my way up into the actual clothing and skin of the little boy. Maybe tomorrow I'll post what this thing is supposed to look like when it's finished. I'm sure I could find a good picture online if I decided to look. See you all next time!!

An Art Journal Page, A Card, and A Dollar Store Find.

Hey everyone! I'm glad to be back once again with you all, and so far I've been doing okay with my post every day personal challenge to myself. This is day three, and also my third day of Art Journaling Daily challenge. I had a lot of fun playing today, and am glad that I had time to post this today. Sometimes my Sundays are especially busy, since currently in the afternoons I have been practicing with a group of others for our Easter play.

So anyways, this page was not only for the Art Journaling Daily; I like to have prompts to work with as they tend to get my creative juices flowing and give me plenty of ideas to work with. Today was another prompt from daisy yellow. I've said it before, and I'll say it again; I love her work and her prompts. They are just so inspiring, and I always get ideas instantly. I enjoy working with them, and even though this page is outside of my usual comfort zone (bright colors), it sort of forced me to think outside the box a little.

So here's another view of the page, only this time a bit further away. I love giving you guys two views and distances of my work; I just think it works better. It was done from the No Frills Prompt 18. In these prompts, she gives you a photo, and your job is to work a page around the page. I used the colors from the photo which were deep golds and mustardy colors. And I don't normally use yellow, so this was a pretty big stretch from myself.

So I decided to also work with another 365 Cards sketch challenge - I sort of like to work with cards - it's a bit different than my usual work. So anyways, on every Sunday they post a sketch to work with. I always have used sketches, and loved them, since I thought they made my stuff look better and more structured. But the problem was that I always followed them to a "T". It got old. So when I worked this time, I made several MAJOR changes, even though you can still tell that it's directly from the sketch!

So here's my card that I made. I used pink and green, a combination that I like, but rarely use, since the colors together are a bit too girly for me personally. So anyways, my favorite parts of the card would probably be the lime pearls in the upper left hand corner, and the zebra ribbon down at the bottom. But as I said before, I'm not much of a card person. It's going to take some getting used to. That way I can get more back into the swing of things.

And on one last note, I picked up some glitter in lime, pink and blue while I was at the dollar store, so you should probably expect to see some experimentation with this, since I've never used loose glitter in my artwork before. Yeah. You read that right. I've never used loose glitter since I was probably four years old. So I think it might be interesting to play around with this and see what I can do with it. You know, that's out of the ordinary. Anyways, I'll see you all next time. Hopefully tomorrow.
