Step By Step Art Journaling and ICAD #17

Hey everyone! I have a bit of a treat for you guys today. At least I guess you could say that. I was working on my 30-30-30 challenge today, and I actually made two pages. I didn't take pictures of one of them for some reason, though I don't really know why. I'll post it tomorrow for sure. Anyways. That's not the surprise. The surprise is that I have a bit of step by step journaling for you! I took a photo of how this page progressed every five minutes throughout my thirty, and this is what I got. Hope you enjoy!

The first picture is the piece with just a couple layers on it. And at this point, I don't even really remember what they were. I know there was some watercolor paint involved there, and I believe some white acrylic paint. But I don't really know how it was applied. I think I should probably start keeping better track of this kind of stuff.

After staring at that background for a little while, I came up with the idea to mask off parts of the piece with masking tape, and then do stuff from there. What I ended up doing was taking some teal colored paint and painting a thin layer over the entire thing. Then I took a stamp and actually picked UP the color from the page itself; I didn't apply any paint to it at all. It picked up the teal paint and brought me back to the red background. Then I peeled the tape off.

Here it is a few steps later. I actually used some red paint to go over the red background, as it wasn't really working for me. I also added a few pieces of collage.

From there, I added some teal paint with a pallet knife over the majority of the page. Then, I added some doodling with a Sharpie Paint marker. In black.

And here we are with the finished page. I added a bunch of journaling along the vertical stripes, and then I added a bunch of white paint to the top of it. I really like the way it managed to blend all of the colors together, and I think that I was able to achieve a really nice effect. At least in my eyes. Which, to me, is all that really matters. Even though confirmation is nice as well.

Now we have arrived with today's ICAD. I really LOVE the way this card turned out. I don't know if you guys can truly understand the reasons I love this card, as the photos didn't turn out nearly as good as the real thing. I used a prompt today, and that prompt was colored pencils on top of black paint or gesso. I thought that it would achieve a really nice effect, but I didn't really have any idea how nice that really was. However, I do have a tip for you.

And that tip is this. Any color that you use on top of black paint. Any color. Will. Get. Darker. I know it sounds like common sense, but that kind of shocked me a little bit when I was first getting started. It makes sense now though.

Even though that's all I have for you guys today, I hope to see you tomorrow. And maybe it will be earlier this time.
